ypwhich - return name of NIS server or map master
SYNOPSIS
ypwhich [ -d domain ] [ -Vn ] [ hostname ]
ypwhich [ -d domain ] [ -t ] -m [ mname ]
ypwhich -x
DESCRIPTION
ypwhich returns the name of the NIS server that supplies the NIS services to a NIS client, or which is the master for a map. If invoked
without arguments, it gives the NIS server for the local machine. If hostname is specified, that machine is queried to find out which NIS
master it is using.
OPTIONS -d domain
Specify a domain other than the default domain.
-t This option inhibits map nickname translation.
-m mname
Find the master NIS server for a map. No hostname can be specified with the -m option. mname can be a mapname or nickname for a
map. If mname is omitted, ypwhich will produce a list of available maps.
-x Display the map nickname translation table.
-Vn Version of ypbind(8), V2 is default.

I've set up a NIS domain with linux as master-server, slave server and clients ... and Linux works fine.
To that NIS domain I tried to add a HPUX 11.00 and an AIX 4.3.3 system (till now - there should be more clients in final version). And both systems now have to same problem:

when I create a file on a server (server1), the group of this file is the number of the group and not its name.

Has anyone ever used disk quotas with NIS? I tried to implement it the normal way but since the users only exist in NIS and not in the local passwd file when i try the edquota command it cannot find the user.

I recentely aquired an old B1000 workstation running HP-UX 11(I think) that was a member of a NIS domain. As such it now fails to find it's domain, that lab has been dismantled, this is however not a huge problem by it's self but what is a problem is that all of the libs and bins were stored in a... I have a list of ids and a master list. I need to display entries from the master list matching ids in the first list. The master list is space delimited, id is 1st field.

I am installing a NIS master server with a linux SLES 10 SP1. And it was pretty straight forward. (Simple since it GUI ) The server can bind to itself when issue with ypwhich command.
