aecho - send AppleTalk Echo Protocol packets to network hosts
SYNOPSIS
aecho [ -c count ] ( address | nbpname )
DESCRIPTION
aecho repeatedly sends an Apple Echo Protocol (AEP) packet to the host specified by the given AppleTalk address or nbpname and reports
whether a reply was received. Requests are sent at the rate of one per second.
address is parsed by atalk_aton(3). nbpname is parsed by nbp_name(3). The nbp type defaults to `Workstation'.
When aecho is terminated, it reports the number of packets sent, the number of responses received, and the percentage of packets lost. If
any responses were received, the minimum, average, and maximum round trip times are reported.
EXAMPLE
Check to see if a particular host is up and responding to AEP packets:
example% aecho bloodsport

nbplkup, nbprgstr, nbpunrgstr - access NBP database
SYNOPSIS
nbplkup [ -r nresp ] [ nbpname ]
nbprgstr [ -p port ] nbpname
nbpunrgstr nbpname
DESCRIPTION
nbprgstr registers nbpname with atalkd(8), at the given port. nbpunrgstr informs atalkd that nbpname is no longer to be advertised.
nbplkup displays up to nresp (default 1000) entities registered on the AppleTalk internet. nbpname is parsed by nbp_name(3). An `=' for
the object or type matches anything, and an `*' for zone means the local zone. The default values are taken from the NBPLKUP environment
variable, parsed as an nbpname.
EXAMPLE
Find all devices of type LaserWriter in the local zone.
example% nbplkup :LaserWriter

I have been puzzled over how to find out between correctly received bytes and total received bytes in the UNIX system.
So far, I guess that the information provided by the ifconfig or netstat command provides me with the total transmitted/received packets and bytes over each of my connections.... (2 Replies)

I have a script that pings several hosts and stores the response in a text file (see below)
Once this file is created, the intention is to populate a database with the values for 'packet loss', 'avg' and 'mdev', but first I have to extract this data.

I need to create a script to monitor sent/received packets for a period of time (the period of time will be a users input) and write the result to some txt file.
Is there any command (don`t want to use any 3rd party sw) what I can use?
I`m using Solaris 10.

Would it be possible for a script to duplicate a file and incrementally number it?
