LVMDISKSCAN(8) System Manager's Manual LVMDISKSCAN(8)NAME
lvmdiskscan - scan for all devices visible to LVM2
SYNOPSIS
lvmdiskscan [-d|--debug] [-h|-?|--help] [-l|--lvmpartition] [-v|--verbose]
DESCRIPTION
lvmdiskscan scans all SCSI, (E)IDE disks, multiple devices and a bunch of other block devices in the system looking for LVM physical vol-
umes. The size reported is the real device size. Define a filter in lvm.conf(5) to restrict the scan to avoid a CD ROM, for example.
OPTIONS
See lvm for common options.
-l, --lvmpartition
Only reports Physical Volumes.

vgscan - scan all disks for volume groups and rebuild caches
SYNOPSIS
vgscan [-d|--debug] [-h|-?|--help] [--ignorelockingfailure] [--mknodes] [-P|--partial] [-v|--verbose]
DESCRIPTION
vgscan scans all SCSI, (E)IDE disks, multiple devices and a bunch of other disk devices in the system looking for LVM physical volumes and
volume groups. Define a filter in lvm.conf(5) to restrict the scan to avoid a CD ROM, for example.
In LVM2, vgscans take place automatically; but you might still need to run one explicitly after changing hardware.
OPTIONS
See lvm for common options.
--mknodes
Also checks the LVM special files in /dev that are needed for active logical volumes and creates any missing ones and removes unused
ones.

Hi, I work offshore and we have a system that records excessive amounts of data (Terabytes), therefore we changed the 16 x 400GB drives to 16 x 1TB drives. However, since doing this, upon bootup, the system does not recognize the new drives. These drives are external drives in a chassis which is... (5 Replies)
Hi there all, *again* :P
well I have a problem.
I added a new HD in my system specially for my VMachines.
in the bios I see the HD come up (its an old IDE HD that is inserted as slave)
So I would think that I should see him as /dev/hdb
but I dont see him at all in fdisk or what so ever.
I... (3 Replies)
I'm new to Linux 5, going through initial phases of installation and setting up devices, etc,, and much to my surprise discovered also an existence of a 2nd hard drive to try to initialize and partition perhaps using any built-in command i.e. "fdisk" or similar, but I couldn't get the command to... We have an issue here:
The libc.so.6 file (link) is corrupted and it causes the system unbootable. It even doesn't boot to single user mode. How can we boot the system to fix the library file? Or is there any other solutions for this issue?
Here are some boot messages:... (6 Replies)
I wanted to know how we can combine volumes over 2 physical drives.

Hi,
I have a server booted into sysresccd (mini-linux OS) with 1 40 GB disk attached
I am trying to create a volume group and restore another server into the new one
However, when I try to create a partition for /boot it seems that my VG in LVM is not recognized anymore

Hi,
Need a bit of help on this one as I am a scripting noob.
I have a linux based NAS that mounts USB hard drives in an inconsistent location and to make matters worse, seems to lose the mount for an unknown reason and doesn't remount automatically unless the drive is removed and re-inserted.... (4 Replies)
Objective: To recreate the partitioning setup of /dev/sda on /dev/sdc
How would I parse the below information and initialize variables
(an array?) that can be used to build sgdisk commands in a script, regardless of the number of partitions?
Something along the lines of:
sgdisk -n... (12 Replies)
