echo command with screen and ssh
Hi,
i need to execute echo command to write in a txt file on a remote machine. i did it in this way:

ssh user@remotemachine "echo "put text here" > /home/user/myfile.txt"

I tried to run the same command within a detached screen in this way:

ssh user@remotemachine screen -dm "echo "put text here" > /home/user/myfile.txt"

but wihout results.

any suggestion?

Hi.

Try replacing either the outer or inner double quotes of the first ssh command with single quotes (that's not actually a problem here, but it's a bit odd).

Does the target directory (/home/user) exist? Otherwise, what does "but without results" mean?

either single quotes and double quotes work well but without screen. If i run the command with screen it does not work.

Ah, sorry. I misunderstood what you were asking Smilie

I've never used screen, but it certainly seems to be intended for use in interactive shells.

I can't even get a basic screen command to work! Did you test that part in isolation?

What is the end goal - what are you trying to do? Is the use of screen necessary?
