Thanks a lot for ur reply. I understand what you say is right, that it is hard to read in a single line. This was one of my interview questions. I told them that I could it and explained this is how I could do it, they seem to have agreed.
But I am having little difficulty executing it!
Anyway, in sunOs 5.7, I get the following error for the last suggestion , using bash and ksh, both gives the same error

$n ; done
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `;'
suppose you wanted to modify the file name like so:
find /path -name '*.txt' | while read file ;do ; newfile=${file%.txt}".`date %Y%m%d`" ; mv $file $newfile ; done
But instead of 'date %Y%m%d` you capture the c-time of original file and use it instead...

My scenario in MyFile:
Search string1,
When string1 is found, grep the line containing string1, go back over that line in upward direction and grep the first line containing string2.
