UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

This may seem obvious but I am having problems doing this as columns get converted to rows when i try to write a script.

I have 2 files text1.txt and text2.txt each of which have 6 columns of numbers separated by a space.
I need to combine the 2 files so that the output file text3.txt maintains the 6 column format.
How can I script this?

Example of content:

text1.txt
1 2 3 4 5 6
7 8 9 10 11 12
13 14 15 16 17

text2.txt
18 19 20 21 22 23
24 25 26 27 28 29
30 31 32 33 34 35

output needed for text3.txt
1 2 3 4 5 6
7 8 9 10 11 12
13 14 15 16 17
18 19 20 21 22 23
24 25 26 27 28 29
30 31 32 33 34 35


Would the script be any different if columns are separated by tab rather than space?

"cat" is sort of an abbreviation for concatenate, meaning: stringing files together like beads on a string.
